Perspective

It is very easy to lose perspective in this life. When we focus upon earthbound matters that are ever clamoring for our attention, it is easy to forget how insignificant this entire world is in relation to Yahweh and His immense creation.

David knew something about perspective. In one of his psalms he put the following words to music. Perhaps he sang these very words as he tended sheep at night on one of the remote hillsides of Judah's territory as he looked at the canopy of stars above him.

Psalms 8:3-4
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man, that You do take thought of him? And the son of man, that You do care for him?

I have on my computer a collection of photos taken from the Hubble Space Telescope. I am in awe as I consider what is being revealed in these photos of distant galaxies, vast nebula, and the Sun and Moon and planets.

Recently I viewed one of the most remarkable videos I had ever seen. The video truly places the earth and mankind in perspective. It causes me to wonder how I could ever doubt the omnipotence of Yahweh. Even when there are storms all around me, and my strength and resources appear insignificant in light of my circumstances, there stands ever ready, ever watchful, a God of such power and wisdom that the imagination staggers to comprehend it. Our troubles are as nothing in the sight of God. Even our greatest adversary, Satan, is as nothing in comparison.

Isaiah 40:10-17
Behold, Yahweh God will come with might, with His arm ruling for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him. Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, in His arm He will gather the lambs, and carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and marked off the heavens by the span, and calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance, and the hills in a pair of scales? Who has directed the Spirit of Yahweh, or as His counselor has informed Him? With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge, and informed Him of the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust. Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, nor its beasts enough for a burnt offering. All the nations are as nothing before Him, they are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless.

This is an excellent passage to consider next time you feel fear rising at the plans of evil men and wicked rulers over the nations. They are in Yahweh's sight as less than nothing and meaningless. I will pause here and invite you to watch the following video. It is truly remarkable in revealing the vastness of Yahweh's works. The greatest terrestrial endeavor of man is as nothing compared to that which Yahweh has created. And He has called forth substance out of nothingness, a feat man cannot match.

How awesome is our God! And how small and ridiculous is the view of God among Christians today!

Isaiah 66:1-2
Thus says Yahweh, "Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest? For My hand made all these things, thus all these things came into being," declares Yahweh.

How often are we like the man with the son who was tormented by demons. He spoke to the Son of God and said, "If You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" The Lord replied, "'If You can!' All things are possible to him who believes."

We little comprehend Whom it is we are dealing with when we consider the Son of God. Of Him, the apostle John wrote:

John 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

This Son has now sat down at the right hand of power, and He ever lives to make intercession for us. Whom shall we fear? What circumstances can cause us to tremble? If only we would wrest our attention away from the wind and the waves around us and truly see Who it is who rules over all creation. It is this perspective that we need to hold onto.

I will share another link to a presentation that shows once more the power of Yahweh. The presentation is called Powers of Ten. After it runs all the way through, I encourage you to click on the "increase" button and consider the view that Yahweh has over all of His creation.

We truly serve an awesome God. In Him all things consist and hold together. If He were to withdraw His breath, all life would instantly cease. Where can we go and escape from His presence? Even if we make our bed in hell, He is there. The light and the dark are all the same to Him.

Amen and Hallelu-YAH!

Amen, amen, amen! Such a timely and well-directed post, Joseph!

If we take time to really appreciate how "big" God is (and a small word like that doesn't even begin to describe just how big) we begin to see the depth of our sin and thus the extent of his love and the incredible might of his accepting death on the cross and his intercession on our behalf.

As Paul tells us in 2nd Thessalonians 2:8, when the time comes, Christ will blow away the evil one with the breath of his mouth as if he were nothing.
