Answering the Call

Joseph Herrin (11-24-2013)

Jude 22-23
And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.

I am deeply grateful for all those who took the time to pray for the young man I mentioned in the previous post. The outpouring of prayers was heard in heaven, for a brother in Christ (James) who lives in Birmingham responded. In his own words he wrote: “I am not sure if this is my call to help, but I am willing.” He went on to share that he was willing to be a mentor to Devondre, while expressing a sense of inadequacy for the task.

I was very impressed with the humility James manifested, for truly none of us have the power or wisdom within ourselves to save a life from destruction. We are all woefully inadequate. It is Christ who makes us adequate for every task. As someone has stated, “Christ does not call the qualified. He qualifies the called.” Did He not say, “Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”?

I did not mention the specific issues Devondre is dealing with, but they are quite serious. It will require patience and persistence for him to overcome the serious besetting sins in his life, to put them behind him and move forward with the Lord. There are sensitive matters that need to be addressed, the resolution of which may even lead to time in prison. I would invite the readers of this post to please lift up James as he makes himself available to speak forth the light and truth of Christ to this young man. Please pray that James might receive an anointing from the Holy Spirit to discern what needs to be said and done, that he might be an instrument in Yahweh’s hands to rescue Devondre from the grasp of Satan and to deliver him from the punishment that awaits those who work evil.

James and his wife spent over an hour on the phone with Devondre last night. Please pray that Devondre might be willing to meet with them face to face, and that Satan would be restrained from hindering this work of mercy and redemption.

May you be blessed with peace and understanding in these days,

Joseph
